Melbourne Sports Podiatry And Physiotherapy - Hartwell Physiotherapy
Sports Podiatry Conditions Our Team Will Address
At Hartwell Physio, we treat a number of podiatry conditions, including but not limited to:
Achilles Tendinopathy:
This is a common condition that also affects non-sports personnel. The Achilles tendon, present at the heel of the foot, attaching the heel to the calf muscles, is often overused by individuals engaging in sports. Incorrect footwear or training regime can also lead to Achilles tendinopathy. Podiatry can address the issue and help you get back on track.
Plantar Fasciitis:
Plantar fasciitis refers to pain in the heel, or in the centre of the arch beneath your foot. This condition gradually develops and can worsen with time. Correct diagnosis can effectively treat plantar fasciitis and provide long-term relief.
Shin Splints:
Shin splints are a condition of the lower leg fascia that often affects people who partake in rigorous physical activity. Running or engaging in sports increases the prevalence of shin splints, making Melbourne sports podiatry and physiotherapy a necessity.
Injury Prevention:
Pain or injury is not the only reason to visit a centre for Melbourne sports medicine like Hartwell Physio. More often than not, physiotherapists and podiatrists help prevent potential injury by keeping you active and aware of possible risks. To ensure injury prevention, an assessment of your movements is carried out to identify how well your joints and muscles function and how physical activity and tiring out your muscles affect your movement.
How Can Our Melbourne Sports Podiatry and Physiotherapy Clinic Help?
A centre for Melbourne sports medicine that provides podiatry and physiotherapy can help with both preventive and treatment measures. Here’s how:
You can stay active: Your feet are the first to feel the brunt when you engage in active sports. With a sports podiatrist regularly assessing your condition, any strain or condition affecting your feet is quickly diagnosed and addressed, helping you stay in the game.
Your performance is enhanced: More than treating injuries, your sports podiatrist or physiotherapist will help you improve your limb functionality, from using the right footwear and warm-up techniques to keeping your foot in optimal condition.
Injury prevention is prevalent: The best injuries are those that are prevented. Routinely visiting your podiatrist will ensure comprehensive assessments that highlight potential issues before they have a chance to worsen.
Effective rehabilitation becomes accessible: Rehabilitation after an injury requires physical and mental healing. Your trusted podiatrist will not only boost your confidence but also help you regain your flexibility and motion while helping you recover. Your routine Melbourne sports podiatry and physiotherapy clinic will have more detailed knowledge of your condition and progress if you frequently visit for routine assessments.

SPORTS PHYSIOTHERAPY
Have you suffered an injury?
With over 40 years of collective experience in treating sporting injuries, our team at Hartwell Physiotherapy are well equipped to help you recover from your injury and return you to the field or court in the shortest and safest time possible. This is why we are trusted as the leading sports injury physio in the Camberwell and Glen Iris area. We have AFL physio experience, as well as managing elite level basketball, netball, hockey, cricket and running athletes.
Do I need scans?
The first step in your recovery is an accurate diagnosis of the structures you have injured, and the severity of that damage. Your physiotherapist will go through the specifics of the incident with you and then perform a range of physical tests to determine exactly which tissues have been damaged, and to what extent. In some cases (but not all), an x-ray, ultrasound or MRI scan may be required to further assess the damage. If this is the case, your physiotherapist will provide you with a referral to go and have the appropriate scan. If you have damaged something severely enough to require surgery, we have a network of specialist orthopaedic surgeons we can refer you to depending on your needs.
Can I do anything prior to my appointment to start the recovery process?
YES! How you manage your injury in the first 48 hours can have a critical influence on how long you might be out for. Compression, Rest, Ice & Elevation are the keys – you can read more about how exactly to do these things effectively HERE
Will I receive a rehabilitation program from my physio?
YES! Given the stress most sports place on our tissues, you will need to prepare them for your return to the field or court. Your physio will guide you through the appropriate exercises you will need to complete in order to regain full movement, strength & control of that region of your body. They will also modify your training throughout this period so that you can continue some drills (where it’s safe to do so) whilst completing your rehabilitation program.
Rest assured that the Hartwell Physiotherapy team will ensure you can return to your sport safely, minimising your chance of re-injury and will give you the tools and drills to compete to your best again.
