SPORTS PHYSIOTHERAPY
Have you suffered an injury?
Do I need scans?
The first step in your recovery is an accurate diagnosis of the structures you have injured, and the severity of that damage. Your sports therapist in Melbourne will go through the specifics of the incident with you and then perform a range of sports injury assessments to determine exactly which tissues have been damaged, and to what extent. In some cases (but not all), an x-ray, ultrasound or MRI scan may be required to further assess the damage. If this is the case, your sports injury specialist in Melbourne will provide you with a referral to go and have the appropriate scan. If you have damaged something severely enough to require surgery, we have a network of specialist orthopaedic surgeons we can refer you to depending on your needs.
Can I do anything prior to my appointment to start the recovery process?
YES! How you manage your injury in the first 48 hours can have a critical influence on how long you might be out for. Compression, Rest, Ice & Elevation are the keys – you can read more about how exactly to do these things effectively HERE.
Will I receive a rehabilitation program from my physio?
YES! Given the stress most sports place on our tissues, you will need to prepare them for your return to the field or court. Your Melbourne physio for sports medicine physiotherapy and rehabilitation will guide you through the appropriate sports injury rehabilitation exercises you will need to complete in order to regain full movement, strength & control of that region of your body. These also encompass sports remedial massage recovery in Melbourne. As a sports injury physio clinic that focuses on helping you achieve optimal functioning, we also modify your training throughout this period so that you can continue some drills (where it’s safe to do so) whilst completing your rehabilitation program.
Rest assured that the Hartwell Physiotherapy team will ensure you can return to your sport safely, minimising your chance of re-injury and will give you the tools and drills to compete to your best again.
