OSTEOPOROSIS TREATMENT & PREVENTION - BONE HEALTH PROGRAM

Improve your bone density & reduce your risk of falls & fractures

Our Bone Health Program is based on quality research with proven results to improve bone density and reduce falls in people with osteoporosis and osteopenia. It involves a twice-weekly Physio led exercise program that is specifically tailored to the individual, focusing on a combination of high-intensity resistance training as well as specific balance and postural improvement exercises. We also run a regular educational seminar on the management and prevention of Osteoporosis and Osteopenia for those who wish for a deeper understanding of their condition.

Are you eliglible?

To join our Bone Health classes you will need to:

  • Have the tick of approval from your GP to participate in high-intensity resistance training.
  • Have a current diagnosis of osteopenia, osteoporosis or be considered at-risk.

What does the Bone Health Program consists of?

  • Baseline assessment explaining the program, determining eligibility and collecting baseline data on your current functional ability.
  • A bone health education session which will teach you about bone mineral density and the role that high-intensity resistance and impact training can have on improving bone health.
  • A one-on-one exercise session with your physio so that you feel confident and comfortable with your exercises and equipment.
  • Twice-weekly bone health group sessions to strengthen your bones and improve strength for overall quality of life.
  • A review every 2 months with your physiotherapist to discuss progress and goals with a re-assessment of functional testing.

Why should I try the Bone Health Program?

In 2017, the results of the ‘Lifting Intervention For Training Muscle and Osteoporosis Rehabilitation (LIFTMOR)’ trial were published. This trial consisted of twice weekly supervised exercise sessions for individuals with low bone mass which ran over the course of eight months. The study compared high-intensity resistance training with low-intensity exercise. Following the trial, results showed a significant improvement in lumbar spine (lower back) and hip bone mineral density, as well as improved posture, balance and general physical function in the group who completed high-intensity resistance training compared to no improvement or deterioration in the low-intensity exercise group. The evidence suggests that a minimum of six months of high-intensity exercise is required to achieve positive results.

What are my payment options?

Bone Health packages are available to pre-purchase and allow you to have a secured spot in two of our classes each week.
